Hard and software requirements

For patentGate the following hardware and software requirements are necessary:
Client
  • Web browser with activated JavaScript-Support (Internet Explorer from version 9, Firefox or Chrome)
  • For a comfortable display of the original documents: PDF display plugin (e.g. Adobe Reader)
Server Configured Apache-2.2 or later, with an extra module delivered by patentGate (WSQL) in a commonly virtualized Linux or Windows environment.
  • Windows: XP, Server-2003 or later
  • Linux relative free selectable, e.g.: SLES-10.3, SLES-11.2, OpenSUSE-10.3
PatentGate saves a large amount of PDF documents, bibliographic data sets and rating informations. For this it needs, depending on the extension of backlogs and regular data delivery, continuously more memory on the patentGate server respectively the from the patentGate server reachable file server (approx. 1MB per document), as well as on the database server (user specific a few KB per document or more). External file server can be connected via SMB/CIFS, NFS or other transparent network filesystem services. Recommended hardware:
  • CPU: 2 kernel at 1.5Ghz
  • RAM: 1.5GB RAM
  • HDD: user specific, at least 10GB local recommended
To call and update the family data the web server respectively a periodically (e.g. weekly) started update agent on the patentGate server needs to communicate with https://port.patentgate.de (IP address: 80.88.17.29, TCP-Port: 443). Therefore packet filter need to be adapted. As database server patentGate supports MySQL (>5.1) or Oracle (>=10). MySQL Community Server (GPL) can be easily configured for operating patentGate. For operating on an existing Oracle server the components Oracle text and support for bitmap indices are required. PatentGate provides to inform users about different events per mail. For this the access to an arbitrary SMTP server is required. PatentGate contains an own user manage and login system. Integration of existing directory services as LDAP, Active Directory and single-sign-on systems as NTML is possible, more possibly on request. Installation and maintenance can be simplified with remote maintenance access via VPN, e.g. Cisco, Citrix, Checkpoint, etc. or desktop sharing, e.g. Citrix-GoToMeeting.
